Renew Your Mind, Refresh Your Heart, Shape the Nation

Every teacher knows that learning is a powerful force in the life of a child. The nature of teaching forms not only the intellect but the heart, the character and the learner’s worldview. Join us this summer and renew, or learn for the first time, how to teach from Biblical principles. Using a time-tested method, discover how to shape the next generation for Christian self-government while embracing God’s truth in every aspect of life. This inspiring five-day workshop will equip you to instruct your children using bedrock principles and solid academic curricula.

Monday, July 30: How the Principle Approach® Method forms Character and a Biblical Worldview in your Students
This one-day workshop demonstrates the methods of teaching and learning that achieve the highest results academically and spiritually as verified by independent testing. A Biblical worldview is living life through God’s lens in every sphere, not just within our faith. It is most effectively taught throughout the whole of your child’s education year after year. Compare a Principle Approach lesson and a traditional Christian school lesson “side by side.” Get equipped to make the truth of God’s Word the foundation of every subject you teach. Participants will get practical experience to equip them in teaching all subjects. Taught by Dr. Max Lyons and Dan Smithwick.

Tuesday, July 31: The Importance of Teaching Geography: The Setting for His Story
This workshop will help you learn and teach a Biblical worldview through a delightful study of geography, one of the most important and neglected subjects in education today. This one-day hands-on workshop demonstrates Principle Approach 4 R’ing and the Notebook Method. Participants will begin to prepare their own Geography notebook from which to teach geography to all grades. Arnold Guyot said, “The entire globe is a grand organism, every feature of which is the outgrowth of a definite plan of the all-wise Creator for the education of the human family, and the manifestation of His own glory.” Taught by Margie Lyons.

Wednesday, August 1: Restoring the Teaching of Providential History as the context of a Biblical Worldview
Open your mind to see history truly as His Story—the Hand of God in human history. How does the history lesson in a Principle Approach® school differ from one in a secular classroom? We will carefully examine Principle Approach distinctives and demonstrate the use of time-proven methods. You will identify the cause-to-effect reasoning that teaches us the wisdom of the past so that we can better understand the challenges of today and the future. Participants will practice creating a Principle Approach lesson. Taught by Dr. Max Lyons and Dan Smithwick.

Thursday, August 2: Teaching the Principles of Law and Government
This model lesson on law and government utilizes many of the tools that we have learned about this week. We will research in the Bible, and primary sources from The Christian History of the Constitution and Teaching and Learning America’s Christian History. We will look at two main principles: the principle of Christian Self- Government and the principle of Conscience is the Most Sacred Property with instruction on how to apply them at any grade level. Using the book Government Takes All, What’s Left for Me?, we will spend time reasoning and relating together, making specific applications to the areas of education and welfare. By the end of the day, you will have an excellent beginning of your teacher notebook for this subject. Taught by Dr. Max Lyons.

Renew Your Mind, Refresh Your Heart, Shape the Nation Friday, August 3: First Landing Christian History Tour
Join us for a Christian history field study. Discover the exciting, little-known story of the Christian founding and dedication of Virginia and America in 1607 by the Jamestown settlers. The tour begins at The Hall-Slater Library and Teaching Center and concludes at the original site, the stone cross at Fort Story in Virginia Beach. The tour is appropriate for all, including families. Led and taught by Chris Evans.
