Government Takes All…What’s Left for Me?:                                                                          The Failure of Socialism and How to Restore Christian Self-Government

On Monday, October 19th   in our Chesapeake, VA. classroom and live online, 6:30-8:30 pm EST

Government overreach is one of the greatest threats to Americans today. How so? Civil government power grab is relentless, exercising control over health, education, welfare and many other areas of our lives that were once universally regarded as the responsibility of individuals, families and churches. Whatever happened to limits on civil government? This lecture addresses the Biblical defense for jurisdiction - the God-ordained spheres of authority (individual, family, church, voluntary associations) and limits on each sphere. Our precious liberty hangs in the balance so we neglect this subject at our own peril!

At the root of jurisdiction is an extremely important and profound worldview question, “Whose authority and responsibility is each area of life?” The critical question can be framed this way: It is not who can take care of, or provide for something, but rather who is supposed to do it?

Abraham Kuyper (1837-1920), a Dutch pastor whose accomplishments include publishing two newspapers, lead a reform movement to abolish the “state church,” founded the Free University of Amsterdam, and served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands.  Kuyper once stated, “We have gratefully to receive from the hand of God the institution of the state with its magistrates as a means of preservation. On the other hand by virtue of our natural impulse, we must ever watch against the danger which lurks for our personal liberty in the power of the state.”

Why was Kuyper so concerned about potential danger to our personal liberty from the power of civil government? Why did he spend a significant portion of his life warning against governmental abuse of power? Was he right or just another doomsday prophet? History has proven that Kuyper and others like him were and are absolutely right. Let’s return to the Biblical model and regain our liberty, for ourselves and our posterity.
