These five powerful days of workshops are intended to equip classroom teachers and homeschool parents like you with practical methods and skills to revolutionize your teaching using the Principle Approach. Monday, July 25
The Principle Approach to Education: Philosophy, Curriculum and Methods details the unique characteristics of this revolutionary approach to education. Taught by Dr. Max Lyons.


Stonesetters Tour at the Hall-Slater Library and Teaching Center Learn the bedrock principles that sustain liberty and how FACE is working to preserve and propagate the Christian principles that are the basis for our Constitutional Republic.


9:00 am–11:30 am: The Principle Approach to Education, Session I

11:45 am–12:45 pm: Stonesetters Tour

1:30 pm–3:30 pm: The Principle Approach to Education, Session II

3:30 pm–3:45 pm: Applications, questions and networking.


Tuesday, July 26
Teaching a Key Individual prepares teachers to teach a significant individual in any subject: history, literature, science, etc. In Session I, teachers will create their own elementary study from the life and character of George Washington. In Session II, you will learn examples from various grade levels (K-8), as well as various subjects and take home your study in a notebook that you create. Taught by Margie Lyons.

Wednesday, July 27
The Principle Approach to Teaching Mathematics, Session I prepares you with the philosophy, curriculum and methods of teaching math based upon The Noah Plan Mathematics Curriculum Guide. In Session II, you will participate in a model lesson. Taught by Cheryl Hunnewell.

Thursday, July 28
Principle Approach Methods: History prepares teachers to implement the unique methods used to teach the critical subjects of history, Bible, government and economics.

Teaching Elementary History prepares the teacher to implement the Principle Approach by providing two contrasting lessons: a Principle Approach lesson and a non Principle Approach lesson. Taught by Max and Margie Lyons.

Friday, July 29
First Landing Christian History Tour Learn the exciting, little-known story of the Christian founding and dedication of Virginia and America in 1607 by the Jamestown settlers at the original site in Virginia Beach. The tour begins at The Hall-Slater Library and Teaching Center and concludes at the stone cross at Fort Story in Virginia Beach. Transportation is on your own. Taught by Chris Evans.

Registration Information

Fees

  • Workshop fees are $60 per day. Choose your enrollment at registration.
  • Purchase all four sessions and the First Landing Christian History Tour for $189 (a 30% savings).
  • Enrollment is limited to 30 onsite participants per workshop session.
  • The series is available for online participants (except for the on-site portion of the  Christian History Tour).
  • One (1) ACSI CEU in educational studies is available for six hours of direct instruction (i.e., attending three or more sessions); up to four (4) CEUs are available. A fee of $10 payable to FACE is required for a CEU Certificate of Verification.

Travel and Accommodations

Additional Information

  • Bring a Bible, pen and paper for recording. Other documents and resources will be supplied by the instructors.
  • The classroom is fitted with outlets and wi-fi access for use of electronic devices.
  • Lunch is on-your-own during a break between sessions each day. There are many restaurants and eateries convenient to the Hall-Slater Teaching Center or bring your lunch and enjoy the garden patio at the Center.

Speaker Biographies

Dr. Carole Adams is the president of the Foundation for American Christian Education and founder of StoneBridge School in Chesapeake, Virginia. She is also the senior editor of the Noah Plan Principle Approach K-12 curriculum used in schools and home schools. She is the author of The Christian Idea of the Child and editor of The Journal of the Foundation for American Christian Education. Dr. Adams serves as an advisor to the Nehemiah Institute and to Summit Ministries. She holds a commendation from the Commonwealth of Virginia General Assembly for her “educational accomplishments on behalf of the young citizens of the Commonwealth.” She and her husband of 50 years, John, are parents of a son and two daughters, with four grandsons and three granddaughters.

Dr. Max Lyons is the Director of Teaching Services at the Foundation for American Christian Education. He has 37 years of experience as a Christian educator and before coming to FACE, he served as teacher and administrator in three Christian schools. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Virginia Wesleyan College, a Masters in Christian School Administration from Regent University, and a Ph.D. in Christian Education from Whitefield Theological Seminary. He is the author or co-author of five books. Max and his wife, Margie, have four children and seven grandchildren.

Margie Lyons is a professional educator with a degree in elementary education. She taught in a Christian school for two years before devoting her full-time energies to raise and homeschool her children. Her accomplishments include home schooling (using the Principle Approach) since 1986, leading a Principle Approach home school support group, producing model teacher and student notebooks at all grade levels, and training homeschoolers in using this unique method of education. Margie specializes in curriculum development.

Cheryl Hunnewell is the Upper School Dean of Academics at StoneBridge School in Chesapeake and is a StoneBridge School Master Teacher of Mathematics. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education from the College of William and Mary and a Master’s Degree in Education from Regent University. She has 19 years of teaching experience. Cheryl has been married to Jim, a retired pastor, for thirty-four years. They have one son, Aaron, who graduated from StoneBridge in 2003.

Chris Evans has homeschooled her two children and also worked in promotion, publicity and history events at StoneBridge School. She has been politically active in public policy in conservative and social issues for 32 years. Chris has spent 25 years researching and studying Christian history specializing in the providential history of America and the Virginia Colony. She is currently available to lead tours to the First Landing site and the historic district specializing in tours to Jamestown.
