StoneBridge Swimmers State Champions!
2007 DIVISION II
Have you heard about the State victory accomplished by StoneBridge School's 7-girl swim team and the notoriety this is bringing to Hampton Roads?
Will you please honor this "Facing the Giant" accomplishment by the National Model School for the Principle Approach® teaching method; a Christ centered approach to education? Please enjoy learning more about StoneBridge School (SBS).
I pray you will honor this worthy and outstanding victory with a Center Isle Presentation of a Proclamation.
This was Kelsey Stall of NN, Becca Peterson, Tiffany Going, Brittany Haskell, Caitlin Ives, Rachel Peterson and Lauren Keating, all of Chesapeake, culmination of nine months of grueling training in conditions that included blistering water temperatures, sweltering weight rooms, double workouts that finish at 11 p.m. and returned the next morning at 5:30 a.m.
SBS swim team, unlike many who placed top 8, does not have any year round swimmers. As per the Daily Press link above, a division II swimmer, Kelsey Stall of NN, was blessed to place 5th overall in 100 back, 6th in 100 fly, and 5th in the 200 and 400 free relays making her the highest point scorer for the StoneBridge team and the highest placed swimmer. The cum GPA for the girls' swim team was about 96%, (they use actual % earned rather than a "letter grade") a very significant accomplishment for girls who dedicate about 2 hours per day, M-F, to practices and swimming hundreds of miles as they prepare for this culminating event!
This seven girl team acquired enough points to accomplished what many view as the impossible—a State Championship!
Here we have Virginia’s seventh smallest qualifying school come to Chatham with seven girls, competed in nine of the 11 events and overcome 12 Division I schools and 19 Division II school to claim themselves as State Champions. With Division I & II schools competing simultaneously, these girls were facing schools twice and sometimes 10 times their size. Truly the StoneBridge girls faced the giants and came home with the crowning prize!
They were 8th overall, another unlikely accomplishment, as some teams have hundreds enrolled, thus much larger swim teams. Some Division I teams did not place this high overall. I, among many, wonder if this has ever been accomplished by any high school in any sport with so few team members in Hampton Roads or in VA? This is StoneBridge's FIRST State title and we hope you will give consideration to honoring these magnificent accomplishments by students throughout Hampton Roads, including NN.
What an honor, that both Division II Champions, StoneBridge girls and Hampton Roads Academy boys, are both from Hampton Roads schools.
Seniors, Kelsey Stall and Rebecca Peterson will be traveling to Slovakia with their class for the Senior Encounter European Christian History Tour including mission work in March. We pray God will continue to bless all SBS endeavors.
